CAMDEN (AP) -- Tools returned to a NAPA store gave state police the break they needed to charge two young men with stealing property from numerous cars in Oneida County.
Troopers say eight vehicles were broken into in the early morning hours of December 16 in the North Bay area of Oneida County. Among the items taken were tools recently purchased from the NAPA store in Camden. Police told store employees to call them if anyone tried to return the tools for cash.
Later in the day, an employee called troopers and said someone had brought the tools in to return. Police responded and arrested 22-year-old Joshua Kampf and 19-year-old Corey Carbery, both of Chittenango. They were charged with petit larceny and criminal mischief. Most of the stolen goods were recovered.
Police say the investigation is ongoing and anyone who had a car break-in but didn't report it should call troopers in Sylvan Beach.
