AUBURN -- An Auburn man is under arrest after police say they found him smoking pot with his young daughter in the car on Christmas night.
According to Auburn Police, an officer was on patrol in the area of Fort Hill Cemetery just before 9:00 p.m. Saturday when he came upon an occupied parked vehicle. As the officer approached the car, he says the driver got out and dropped items into the snow. The officer says the items were a lit marijuana cigar (also known as a ‘blunt’) and a lighter.
As the officer patted down the man, identified as 31-year-old Mark Myers of Grove Avenue, the officer says he noticed Myers’ 11-year-old daughter sitting in the passenger seat of the car. The officer says he also saw a revolver on the backseat floor of the car, which was later identified as a loaded Smith and Wesson .38 Special.
Police say the officer arrested Myers and took the girl into protective custody until her mother could be contacted.
Myers is charged with criminal possession of a weapon, unlawful possession of marijuana, and endangering the welfare of a child. Police say Myers does not have a permit for the pistol. He posted $10,000 cash bail and was released from the Cayuga County Jail on Sunday.
Police say their investigation is continuing, and anyone with information is asked to call the Auburn Police Department at 315-253-3231.
