SYRACUSE -- Love will be in the air Monday for Valentine's Day. Florists hope that blooms into business.
This year Americans are expected to spend more on Valentine's Day - in total more than $18 billion. It's the biggest day of the year for flower shops like James Flowers in Syracuse. Workers are preparing for the big rush. The store is usually closed on Sunday but was open today, because the owner says in year's past a big bulk of business comes the day before Valentine's Day.
"It's the busiest one day that we ever have during the course of the year because everything pretty much has to get out on that day," Owner Toni Ritter says. "people want things delivered on that day so it's pretty hectic."
Before rushing to get that special someone a gift Ritter has some advice after more than 20 years in the flower business. She says find out what the person really wants before coming in. Ritter says so far her sales are down compared to last year, but she's hoping customers show more love Monday.
