LIBERTY, NY (AP) -- A federal commission that's developed proposals for regulating natural gas drilling in the Delaware River watershed is set to hold a public hearing today in upstate New York.
The Delaware River Basin Commission will take comment on its draft regulations at Liberty High School in the Sullivan County town of Liberty from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. and 6 to 9:30 p.m.
Environmental groups are concerned a type of drilling called "hydraulic fracturing," or "fracking," may pollute groundwater and New York regulators have put a moratorium on the drilling until new regulations can be developed.
The gas-rich Marcellus Shale formation extends into southern New York, including parts of Delaware and Broome counties in the Delaware's watershed.
