HANNIBAL -- Firefighters from several departments in Oswego and Cayuga counties have knocked down a fire at a residence in the Oswego County town of Hannibal.

The home is reported to be heavily damaged. There was one person home at the time but made it outs safely, however, he has been transported to a hospital for a checkup.

Fire officials at the scene tell us the fire apparently started in a chimney and spread to other parts of the house. The fire at the home at 865 County Route 7 was reported just before 6:00 a.m.

No word yet on what caused the fire.
