SYRACUSE (AP) -- A 25-year-old Syracuse man was sentenced to the maximum penalty of 15 years in state prison for sexually molesting an 11-month-old girl while babysitting the child last year.
The Syracuse Post-Standard reports that John Wolfe pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual abuse in January. He admitted sexually molesting the baby with his finger, causing a laceration to her genital area.
Prosecutors say Wolfe and the victim's mother were friends and the woman left her child in Wolfe's care while she attended classes.
Wolfe's sentencing was moved up from May 25 because county officials wanted to get him out of their jail and into state prison. He was accused of damaging a jail sprinkler and having a sharpened spoon as a weapon in his cell. He pleaded guilty to a felony charge to settle those charges and received no additional prison time.
