It's the 6th time Chris Schmidt has been bald for a good cause.
"It feels really great but it's sort of tempered when you remember why you are up there," he said.
Schmidt's friend passed away from cancer in 2006. Since then, he's raised more than $12,000 for the St. Baldrick's Foundation. It aims to fight childhood cancer and find a cure. Since 2005, the foundation has contributed more than $56-million toward research grants.
Every year 160,000 children are diagnosed with cancer. Sunday at Kitty Hoynes in downtown Syracuse, more than 500 people were shaving their heads, to help support St. Baldrick's Foundation.
"People roll their eyes and they say 'oh yeah you're going to find a cure for cancer.' But remember years ago somebody said we are going to find a cure for polio, people rolled their eyes and said 'yeah you're going to find a cure for polio' and where's that today? We're just around the corner," said John McKenna with the St. Baldricks Foundation.
It's a sense of hope that was buzzing in the bar. One by one, people shaves their heads to show solidarity.
"You look at these kids and you see their young faces and knowing that they still have their whole future ahead of them," said Nick Misco. "You realize that there are good causes out there."
"It touches your heart I think everyone in this room has been touched by cancer," said Scott Matukas. "It's kind of an emotional moment even if you haven't been touched directly by cancer. It's just nice to know that you are helping out a cause that touches so many lives.
This event aims to raise $330,000.
