ALBANY -- An update to the story we have been following about threats made via email to schools and lawmakers late last week.
The State Office of Counter Terrorism reports in a statement Wednesday that while law enforcement is treating the recent threat seriously, they do not consider it a “credible threat” at this time. They say that other than making an effort to report suspicious activities, they do not suggest changing any planned activities at this time.
Local school districts and state lawmakers have been on alert after threatening emails were sent to state legislators, targeting reporters, politicians and the wealthy on Friday. The man, who identifies himself only as "John Doe", claims to be a state worker and also threatened to target a bus filled with children. The email stated "If we attack a school bus full of kids, it may have no effect on the hardened criminals who rule Albany, but it will put the public in an uproar. Our goal is to create anarchy."
The state says it is continuing to investigate the threats, and says they will notify the public should any changes to this status take place.
