Try different models!
If you're looking for a summertime sport, kayaking may be an option---and Beaver Lake Nature Center is doing an expo on Sunday to get you started, or upgraded.
Meg Valovage, a naturalist at Beaver Lake, says the sport is growing--and not just the extreme, whitewater version. She says that kayaks are becoming more popular than canoes, which the Nature Center has promoted for years, because one person can handle them solo, and they're also easy to transport, by car.
Sunday's expo at Beaver Lake will run 10am - 2pm, with Eastern Mountain Sport staffers on hand to let visitors try out different models, and also look over paddles, accessories, car racks and more.
Beaver Lake is also doing basic kayaking lessons, starting next month>
Sunday's session is free, after $3 per vehicle park admission.
