A SWAT team was called in to help subdue an Ithaca man thought to be attempting "suicide by cop."
Ithaca Police say they responded to a shots fired call shortly before 4:30 A.M. at an apartment complex on the 400 block of Lake St.
After arriving at the scene, officers learned that 25 year-old Ismanuel Dilan was armed with an AK-47 long rifle and had fired a round in an apartment before running into a wooded area behind the complex.
Police say they tried to negotiate with Dilan, but say he was unwilling to surrender to police.
SWAT and CINT teams were then called to the scene.
At approximately 6 A.M. Dilan fired more shots into the air, and then in the direction of police officers.
Police say after continuous negotiations, Dilan eventually surrendered shortly after 6:30 A.M. and was taken into police custody.
No one was injured in the incident.
Authorities believe Dilan was trying to end his life by being shot by police, otherwise known as "suicide by cop."
Dilan has been charged with 1st degree Reckless Endangerment and 2nd degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon.
Ithaca Police and the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office continue to investigate.
