SYRACUSE --
If you got a ticket recently for not wearing your seatbelt, you aren't alone.
During this year's "Click it or Ticket" initiative, Onondaga County saw a nearly 31 percent increase from last year. Police issued approximately 1,691 tickets this year, compared to 1,293 last year.
The majority of the tickets were issued to drivers who weren't buckled up. Police also ticketed many drivers for not restraining their child properly. Some didn't even have their children in an approved car seat.
Syracuse Police wrote the most tickets at 603. State Police issued 497 seat belt violations. Onondaga County Sheriff's Deputies wrote 250 tickets.
Local police agencies including DeWitt, Camillus, North Syracuse and Manlius also ticketed drivers for not buckling up.
