Tuesday was pay off day for two charities that help animals in Central New York thanks to the CNYcentral Facebook Charity Challenge. During NBC 3 News at 5:00 CNYcentral President and General Manager Chris Geiger presented two ceremonial checks of $1000. News anchor Matt Mulcahy accepted on behalf of the Shamrock Animal Fund which he co-founded with his wife Jamie. Chief Meteorologist Wayne Mahar accepted on behalf of his Priscilla Mahar Animal Welfare Foundation.
During the check presentation Geiger, Mulcahy and Mahar thanked the viewers of CNYcentral and the fans of our Facebook page. The number of fans grew from approximately 5,000 to 15,000 during the four week period of the charity challenge. The community that has developed on the CNYcentral Facebook page has made it the number one place for news and interaction among Central New York media. Everyday the audience interacts about the stories of day, sharing comments, photos and ideas about the news.
Wayne Mahar thanked CNYcentral for the donation saying the money is already helping the Priscilla Mahar Animal Welfare Foundation benefit other animal helping agencies in the region. Matt Mulcahy said the $1000 has already allowed the Shamrock Animal Fund to assist five or six animal owners including a cat with cancer.
