SYRACUSE (AP) -- Ted Koppel, who launched ABC's news program "Nightline," is giving his alma mater videotapes and other items from a career that has spanned six decades.
Koppel began his broadcasting career at Syracuse University in 1956.
The donation, announced Friday, consists mostly of videotapes and includes correspondence, photos, cartoons, awards and notebooks chosen by the notable newsman, including from his time as a Vietnam War correspondent.
The Koppel Collection represent a significant addition to the university library's resources on the history of broadcast journalism.
Koppel began his broadcasting career at WMCA Radio in New York City. He joined ABC Radio News in 1963 and moved to television in 1966. He has bachelor's degree in speech from Syracuse and a master's degree in mass communications research and political science from Stanford University.
