Thornden Park holds open house
If you want to see roses, Syracuse's E.M. Mills Rose Garden is the place, The Thornden Park garden has been recognized as one of the top rose gardens in the country, and on Wednesday afternoon it holds its annual open house. Pam Dooling, with the Syracuse Rose Society (the oldest continuous rose organization in the country) says volunteers, in cooperation with Syracuse Parks, keep the garden in shape--and that volunteers there are always happy to talk with garden visitors about rose gardening tips.
Dooling says the garden is also special because it's the trial place for new varieties, before the American Rose Society officially recognizes them---she brought a new 'Syracuse' rose to show off in our studios.
The open house, Wednesday noon - 3pm, is at the time when roses are at their peak. Looking at the flowers, live entertainment and entertainment are on the agenda---and a hat contest, at 12:30. It's all for free
