SYRACUSE -- Two Syracuse University students will face disciplinary action regarding what university officials are calling an incident of hate speech.
On Saturday the university posted a letter on its website regarding a video which was posted on YouTube. According to the university, it was made early Thursday morning at an off campus apartment complex. The students who recorded it say the man was shouting anti-Asian American slurs at them without being provoked.
The university did an investigation and officials say the two people engaging in hate speech are current Syracuse University students.
"While federal privacy law and university policy prohibit us from providing identifying information about the two responsible students, they will face disciplinary action under the Code of Student Conduct through the University's Office of Judicial Affairs," said Thomas Wolfe, SU Senior VP for Student Affairs and Dean of Students.
Wolfe says the university seeks to provide a learning environment that is free of discrimination.
"We will not tolerate hate speech or bias-related harassment in any form," Wolfe said.
Support and counseling services are being offered to the targets in the video. The video has been removed from YouTube.
