SYRACUSE -- State Police are reminding people who are planning to come out for Monday's big fireworks display in Syracuse not to park on the side of highways.
It's an issue every year and one that's dangerous. That's why police are asking for the public not to stop or park along interstate 690 and state route 695, or access ramps, to watch the July 4th fireworks at the state fairgrounds. During previous years, many people have used the shoulders and ramps of the interstate highways as a parking lot to watch the fireworks. Police say in some cases, drivers have set up lawn chairs and had impromptu tailgate parties along the highway, which is illegal.
There is free parking at the state fairgrounds. Police say the gates open at 5pm. Music gets going at 6pm and the fireworks will start around 9:45pm. Police will be out making sure people don't park illegally.
