TUPPER LAKE, NY (AP) -- Police say a Canadian couple has escaped serious injuries after their three-wheel motorcycle crashed when it struck a black bear running across an Adirondack road.

State troopers tell the Post-Star of Glens Falls that 69-year-old Robert MacIntyre of Orangeville, Ontario was traveling on Route 30 in southern Franklin County when he struck the bear Thursday afternoon in the town of Tupper Lake, 115 miles northwest of Albany.

MacIntyre and his passenger, 63-year-old Mary DeVries, were both thrown from the vehicle.

Police say both were treated at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake for minor injuries.

Troopers say the bear ran off into the woods.
