Rechargeable, button batteries not allowed
July is battery collection month in Onondaga County, but it looks alot different this year.
OCRRA, Onondaga County's recycling agency, is issuing bright yellow bags to dispose of spent Alkaline batteries, and Sarah Stewart, who's the recycling coordinator, says they can be put on top of regular trash at curbside in July. AA, AAA, C, D and 9-volt batteries can go in the bag, but rechargeables, including laptop and phone batteries, and button batteries, such as those used for hearing aids and watches, need to be disposed of separately under new Federal regulations. The can be dropped off at Wegmans or Green Hills, year-round
The OCRRA website has more details, including how to get the yellow bags.
