SYRACUSE -- CNY Central's First Alert Weather Team has been warning us all week about the scorching temperatures in store for today.
We surpassed a record in Syracuse -- reaching 101 degrees!
To beat the heat, many folks headed straight for places with air conditioning. At the Museum of Science and Technology in downtown Syracuse, kids were brought in by the bus load to escape the heat. The relief started as soon as people opened the front door.
"Oh that felt good, it felt like walking into an ice cream parlor," said Robert Monroe, of Camillus with his 2-year-old granddaughter Holly.
But if the MOST is a little too noisy for you, there are plenty of places in Central New York to cool off without taking a dip in the water. Most suburban libraries in Onondaga County are fully equipped with AC, which is why Kristen Augustyn brought her children to the Onondaga Free Library on West Seneca Turnpike.
"It's very cool, refreshing, and it's better than sitting in your backyard...it's just too hot," she said.
The biggest ice box of them all just might be Carousel Center. A lot of folks flocked to the mall to escape the heat and do a little shopping.
"It's really nice to walk around and not sweat," said Robert Scott.
Whether it's the mall, the library or a museum -- it's much cooler than being outside.
