UTICA -- A western New York man is under arrest after leading police on a chase through Oneida County.
According to Utica Police, on Thursday afternoon officers were conducting surveillance on a man named Ruslan Konovalchuk, who was wanted for an alleged bank robbery that occurred in the Town of Penfield on July 15. Police say a note was used in the robbery, which took place at an M&T Bank.
Police say Konovalchuk was spotted leaving a home on Downer Avenue around 2:15, and pursued him in their vehicle. Konovalchuk’s vehicle was reported to be stolen in the Rochester suburb of Greece on July 7. After a brief chase, police tracked down and arrested Konovalchuk near the North Utica/Schuyler town line.
Konovalchuk is charged with unlawfully fleeing from a police officer, resisting arrest, and numerous traffic offenses including reckless driving, failure to keep right, failure to use designated lane, passed a red light, and speeding. He was handed over to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office to be booked on the alleged robbery and theft crimes.
