LENOX, MADISON CO. -- Some new and alarming details are emerging about a string of burglaries that took place on July 22nd among homes on the shore of Oneida Lake in Madison County.
Madison County Sheriff's deputies say it's part of a rash of daytime burglaries that happened that day. The cases are centered in the northwestern edge of the Town of Sullivan along the State Route 31 corridor.
Undersheriff John Ball tells CNY Central's Jim Kenyon the burglar hit three homes. In once case, the suspect stole some $30,000 worth of heirloom jewelery. Ball says the victim of the burglary is offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
Ball says the burglar knocked on the doors of up to 18 homes, either asking for directions or for a fictitious person in an attempt to see if anyone was home. Based upon information from people in the neighborhood, deputies have determined they're looking for a white male in his late teens to early 20's with a thin build and dark hair. They're also asking the public to be on the lookout for an older model dark blue or purple sedan, described as either a Hyundai or Kia.
