Onondaga County Sheriff's Deputies are investigating an early morning motorcycle crash. They say a man from Liverpool was killed.
Sheriff's Deputies got a call from a passing driver around 2:12 AM. They say 38-year-old Rafael Lopez was driving a 2010 Yamaha motorcycle. Investigators say Lopez was driving along Vine Street when he lost control around a curve and crashed into a utility pole. Deputies say Lopez was ejected from his motorcycle, and was thrown about 125 feet.
Deputies say no other vehicles were involved in the crash. They say speed was likely a contributing factor. A passing driver called police, and when rescue crews arrived, Lopez was pronounced dead.
At this point, we do not know whether Lopez was wearing a helmet. Do you wear a helmet when on a motorcycle?
Vine Street was closed for a few hours overnight between Commerce Boulevard and Henry Clay Boulevard. It was open by just after 5:00 AM.
