SYRACUSE (AP) -- Fire investigators in Syracuse say a 4-year-old boy playing with matches in an upstairs bedroom set his family's house on fire.
The Syracuse Post-Standard reports that the six people in the three-story wood-framed house all got out safely after the fire broke out around 11:15 Sunday morning.
Lt. Fire Investigator Joseph Galloway said the boy's grandmother, Billie Thomas, suffered a medical condition and was taken to a Syracuse hospital for treatment. Thomas owns the home and lives there with her nephew and three grandchildren.
Galloway said Thomas' 4-year-old grandson was in an upstairs rear bedroom, playing with matches when he lit bedding on fire. The bedroom sustained the worst of the fire damage.
The American Red Cross is providing the family with temporary shelter.
