WATERTOWN -- Watertown police have released the names of the officers involved in a shooting that left a woman dead this past weekend.

Police say 50-year-old Laura Pettey of Dexter walked into Stewart's convenience store on Washington Street late Saturday night, pulled out what appeared to be a firearm, and started making suicidal comments.

When police arrived, they say Pettey pointed the gun at them. Officers then opened fire, hitting her in the chest. She was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The officers involved have been identified as Watertown Officer Christopher Aher, a four-year veteran; Officer Joshua Moran, a three-year veteran; and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy Matthew Vaughn, a six-year veteran.

State Police and the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the case.
