The sinkhole on South Avenue Thursday afternoon

SYRACUSE -- The heavy rain felt around Central New York and the Southern Tier also caused a sinkhole to form in the city of Syracuse.
In the accompanying photo you can see the deep crater along the 2000 block of South Avenue. That is near the Elmwood neighborhood, just minutes away from Community General Hospital.
Syracuse Department of Public Works officials say a county sewer line malfunctioned, causing the sinkhole to work. They say it will take a few days to repair.
The road is still open right now. Barricades are blocking the sidewalk and the area of the road impacted by the sinkhole.
