NORTH SYRACUSE -- Taxpayers in the North Syracuse Central School District are getting an unexpected break.

The district says it is lowering the tax rate for people in Cicero, Clay and Salina. In May, when the taxes were calculated, the district raised the rate by 5.01%. However, after receiving final assessed values, the district is dropping that rate increase. Now, taxpayers in Cicero will see a 2.04% increase. There will be a 2.12% increase in Clay, and a 2.13% increase in Salina.

The district says the variation is due to assessment changes and actual growth, primarily in Cicero.

Under the original projections in May, a taxpayer with a $100,000 home could expect to pay about $100 more. With the new formula, that increase is about $44.
