CHITTENANGO -- Clear Path for Veterans, a not for profit organization that helps mentally and emotionally wounded soldiers, is opening up a center at the former Sky Ridge Family Recreation Center in Chittenango.

The center is specifically designed to help veterans who are suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder or Military Sexual Trauma.

One of the main sources of therapy for the veterans will be a program called Dogs2Vets. Dogs2Vets allows veterans to train their own service dogs, Many of the dogs selected for the program are rescued from local animal shelters. In return, the dogs are trained to assist the veterans and provide a form of emotional support.

From this point, Clear Path for Veterans officials say they plan to raise money to build an on-site caretaker home to help foster and train dogs. They also want to restore the swimming pool on the grounds and build a veteran-operated kitchen.
