SPRINGPORT -- At 7:09 AM Wednesday morning, State Police were called to the scene of a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Connors Road and Webb Road in the Town of Springport. Also responding were the Union Springs Fire Dept., Cayuga Fire Dept., Aurelius Fire Dept., Rural Metro and TLC Ambulances
Mellissa Goss, 19, of Auburn was driving a Ford Taurus westbound on Connors Rd. She stopped for a stop sign at Webb Road and then pulled into the intersection without yielding the right of way to a farm dump truck traveling southbound on Webb Rd.
The dump truck, driven by Howard Haines, 64, struck the Taurus.
A passenger in the Taurus, Robert Clark, 23 and Goss were transported to Upstate Medical University by Mercy Flight where Clark died from his injuries. Goss was treated and is currently in stable condition. Haines was transported to Auburn Memorial Hospital, treated and released.
