ROME -- A Rome man is dead after he was stabbed during a fight.
It happened Tuesday around 3:45 a.m. in the area of Lawrence and Depyster streets in Rome.
Stephen M. LaPointe, 20, of Lawrence Street, suffered multiple stab wounds after getting into a fight with another man, according to Rome Police.
According to investigators, LaPointe and several other people were walking in the area when they encountered an unknown man riding a bike. After words were exchanged, that's when police say the fight started, and LaPointe was stabbed.
LaPointe was transported to Rome Hospital where he died around 5 p.m.
After an extensive search, the suspect was found in the south Rome area.
Terrance Dames, 26, of Brooklyn, is charged with second degree murder and is being held in Rome Police lockup.
More information is expected to be released on Wednesday.
