SYRACUSE -- A "silent killer" continues to affect women, and many don't even know about it.
Heart disease is the number one killer of women age 20 and older, according to the American Heart Association.
Go Red for Women is fighting back. It's a national effort to celebrate the energy, passion, and power of women to eradicate heart disease.
One sign you may be suffering from heart disease is if you have a heart attack.
Here are some signs you could be suffering from a heart attack, according to the American Heart Association:
-Uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain in the center of your chest. It lasts more than a few minutes, or goes away and comes back.
-Pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.
-Shortness of breath with or without chest discomfort.
-Other signs such as breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness.
-As with men, women's most common heart attack symptom is chest pain or discomfort. Women are somewhat more likely than men to experience some of the other common symptoms, particularly shortness of breath, nausea/vomiting and back or jaw pain.
And here are more statistics you may not be aware of when it comes to heart disease:
-More women die of heart disease than the next four causes of death combined, including all forms of cancer.
-1 in 3 American women die of heart disease
-90% of women have one or more risk factors for developing heart disease
-80% of cardiac events in women may be prevented
To help in the battle against heart disease, a luncheon will be held in Central New York.
The luncheon is October 13th at noon at the Holiday Inn Convention Center in Liverpool. Tickets cost $75 each. Click here for more information on the lunceon.
CNYcentral's Jackie Robinson will emcee the event along with 93Q's Amy Robbins.
