SODUS, WAYNE COUNTY -- A fatal fire in Wayne County that killed a mother and her young child is under investigation.
Fire crews were called to a home on Pilgrimport Road in Sodus around 10 am Saturday. When they got on the scene, the fire was fully involved. Authorities say some residents of the house made it out before they arrived. Firefighters located the bodies of 19-year-old Mercedes Degelleke and her 2-year-old daughter in a bedroom.
Authorities say three other residents of the house were taken to the hospital to be treated for burns and smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
