It's a girl! Zoo's latest 'little lady' gets her name

SYRACUSE -- It's a girl! The Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse gave its newest addition a name Wednesday morning.

On August 23rd, the Rosamond Gifford Zoo welcomed its second baby patas monkey of the year.

After an online voting contest Kibibi was the winning selection. Kibibi is Swahili for little lady. Her sister, D.J, was born in January. She also has a half sister named Sara. Kibibi is the second baby to parents Addie and M.J.

The winning name was submitted by 9-year-old Allison Lyons from Syracuse. There was a total of 610 names that were submitted, it was narrowed down to 10 by judges.

5 of the names were female and 5 were male, Kibibi won 52% of the female vote.

After several days of voting, Kibibi rose to the top with 52 percent of the votes for a girl name and 30 percent of the total votes.

The finalists for a girl were: Abena, Dayo, Kibibi, Shani, Zarina.
