SALINA -- This November voters in Salina will decide whether or not to consolidate the town hall and highway facility and move them into a new building the town would buy.

On Saturday, residents were able to tour the current highway building on Factory Avenue. Town Supervisor Mark Nicotra says the building, located on an old garbage dump, is sinking and has ventilation issues.

"Certainly combining our facilities into one place at the Chevy dealership is certainly more cost effective than renovating and rebuilding our existing facilities," Nicotra said.

The open house was an opportunity to give people a look at the facility before they vote on the proposal on Election Day which is November 8th. The town board already approved the resolution.

"I think they are getting a first hand look at the condition of this building and what we're up against if we continue to be in the building and that's what we wanted," Nicotra said. "We wanted them to see what we are dealing with at this facility and get that information and make the best decision for them November 8th."

Under the proposal, the town would buy the building that Chevy is moving out of on Old Liverpool Road. Nictora says the town would sell the current town hall and so at this point the cost to taxpayers is not clear. He estimates it would cost them $15 to $20 on a $100,000 home.

Another open house will take place on Saturday October 29th from 10am to 1pm at the Salina Town Hall on School Road.
