It took firefighters from 12 different departments nearly an hour and a half to get a massive barn fire under control in the Howlett Hill Fire District Saturday Night.

Howlett Hill Deputy Chief Fred Isgar tells CNY Central the fire broke out just before six o'clock on Corporal Welch Road, which is just down the street from Boom Boom Mex Mex.

Isgar said the owner of the barn is James Bealer, a firefighter for the Howlett Hill Fire Department and former chief.  Isgar said the family is doing well and taking the fire in stride, despite the fact that the family barn has been destroyed.

Flames, which could be seen throughout Camillus and Fairmount, shot 80 to 100 feet in the air, fueled by some 3,000 bales of hay inside the barn according to Isgar.

Isgar said heavy equipment is being brought in to help break up remaining hot spots deep inside the hay.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

No injures have been reported.
