ONONDAGA -- Fire officials say they now know what started a barn fire in the town of Onondaga.

Crews say it was an electrical malfunction that started the fire because the cord to a heat lamp caught fire. Flames broke out just before 6:30 Saturday night at the barn on Corporal Welch road, it's just down the road from Boom Boom Mex Mex. According to crews, a few cows were killed in the fire. It also also destroyed tractors, tools and a few boats.

Two firefighters were taken to the hospital, one for smoke inhalation and the other for an ankle sprain. One hundred firefighters from 12 departments responded to the fire. Iit took about an hour and a half to get the flames under control.

The barn was destroyed. It was owned by a current Howlett Hill firefighter who used to be the chief.
