SYRACUSE -- Neighbors were evacuated after a fire at a vacant house in Syracuse Monday night, according to fire investigators.
It happened around 11:15 p.m. at 248 Lilac Street. That's in the city's northside.
Crews encountered heavy flames at the back of the one story house upon arrival, with the fire extending through the roof, according to Deputy Fire Chief Steve Cavuto.
No one was hurt and fire officials say there were no real difficulties in putting out the flames. About 90% of the house is salvageable, according to Cavuto.
People living next door were evacuated as a precation because of the smoke, according to Cavuto.
"There was no threat to their health. We were pretty confident the fire was going to come under control. We operated for 29 minutes to bring it under control," said Cavuto.
Our CNYcentral crew that responded to the scene reported a large police presence along with a large crowd of on-lookers.
Right now, investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.
