ERWIN, STEUBEN CO. (AP) -- A 25-year-old trucker is dead after a tractor-trailer hauling milk swerved off a southwestern New York highway.
New York state police say the truck driven by John Stinson-Rogers went down an embankment along state Route 86 outside Corning shortly after 3 a.m. Monday. The vehicle tipped on its side and traveled several hundred feet before plowing into a tree.
The cab was heavily damaged, killing the only occupant.
Milk and diesel fuel spilled from the trailer, and investigators from state Department of Environmental Conservation assisted in the cleanup. The highway's westbound lanes were shut down for about eight hours.
Stinson-Rogers resided in Dundee in central New York's Finger Lakes region.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
