The fight continues against the growing problem of methamphetamines. It comes amidst several meth busts recently in Oswego, Oneida and Madison Counties.
U.S. Senator Charles Schumer (D, New York) visits Oswego today to talk about a new effort to fight back against the growing use of crystal meth and mobile production labs.
Schumer will ask for more federal and private assistance to combat the meth problem. Schumer plans to call on the New York and New Jersey High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area group and the Office of National Drug Control Policy to add Oswego County to the list of counties eligible to receive additional federal assistance to fight back against meth production and consumption.
He also wants the national Meth Project, a private group that partners with individuals states to raise awareness of the dangers of crystal meth, to partner with New York state. Schumer says such a partnership could lead to public service announcements, private marketing campaigns and community action programs that will increase the amount of information available to Central New Yorkers regarding the dangers of crystal meth.
There have been several meth busts in Oswego County in recent months. On Monday, we told you about four people charged in a meth bust in the city of Oswego.
In August, a man and woman were charged with state police broke up a methamphetamine laboratory in the Oneida County Town of New Hartford.
And local neighbors were surprised when investigators busted a suspected methamphetamine laboratory in Oneida back in June.
