Conference open to family caregivers and seniors, too
With seniors living longer, there are more cases of elder abuse. Vera House sponsors an annual conference aimed at highlighting major areas of concern. This year's theme is 'Our Elders, Our Responsibility: The Realities of Elder Abuse.'
Kimberly Sacco, Vera House's Director of Education and a member of its elder abuse committee, says that some of the hazards for seniors are shared by other parts of the community, but that they are often more vulnerable to, for example, telemarketer and home repair fraud schemes, because they are not as 'connected' as younger people.
Sacco says the conference will include workshops on various areas of concern, and is open to family caregivers, seniors and anyone who might be affected. It's Friday at the DoubleTree (off Carrier Circle in East Syracuse). The Vera House website has more details.
