CAZENOVIA, MADISON CO. (AP) -- Joan Green has plenty of room in her basement now that she has donated her collection of 2,000 cook books to Syracuse University.

Green's collection grew over 60 years until it filled the basement of her home in Cazenovia, near Syracuse. When none of her children or friends wanted the books, she donated most of the collection to the university's Carnegie Library.

Green tells the Post-Standard of Syracuse that she hopes her collection with provide college students with a history of cooking from around the world over the past half-century.

Her cookbooks include editions in French, Italian, Spanish and Chinese, and the authors include everyone from Julia Child to Mario Batali.

A self-taught cook, Green gave cooking classes in the kitchen of her home and picked up ideas while traveling the world with her husband.
