SYRACUSE -- It was an amazing day in Syracuse Wednesday. More than one thousand people gathered at the Oncenter Wednesday morning to recognize the Heroes in our community and the service of the American Red Cross.
It was the 13th Annual Real Heroes Breakfast. An opportunity to celebrate the amazing stories of courage, compassion and heroism by everyday citizens doing extraordinary things. In an instant, real people become Real Heroes. CNY Central NBC 3 anchor Jackie Robinson had the privilege to co- emcee the event with Mark Larson of YNN.
The crowd watched twelve Hero videos produced by CNY Central and YNN. One story was how a Jamesville Dewitt High School lacrosse player was revived with CPR and a defibrillator after he was struck in the chest by a shot from another player during tryouts for a Section 3 team. Two coaches from Rome Free Academy, a certified trainer from F-M high school and a registered nurse were honored for their quick reaction and teamwork. Without their response and determination the outcome that day could have been a tragic.
Plaques were given to all the honorees as well as recognition of how the American Red Cross has touched all of our lives.
CNY Central will be airing the videos of these heroes in our community throughout the month. Look for them here on CNYcentral.com
Barrington Syracuse President Chris Geiger was also at the event. CNY Central is one of the sponsors of the Red Cross Real Heroes Award.
