HANNIBAL -- One person is dead after a fire in Hannibal Wednesday morning.
Flames sparked at about 8:30 a.m. at 273 Peat Bed Road. That's just south of Route 3.
Firefighters say the fire started in the back area of a trailer. It was an addition that was used as a bedroom.
When fire crews got to the scene, two people had already gotten out. One person was still inside that bedroom. Firefighters tried to rescue the person, but couldn't get through the flames.
Tthe cause of the fire is still under investigation, but Hannibal Fire Chief John Gombas tells CNY Central both a space heater and a propane tank were in that back room.
Fire officials have not released the name of the victim. The two people who escaped the fire, the victim's wife and adult son, were treated for minor injuries.
The home was deemed a total loss, and the Red Cross says it is assisting the surviving victims of the fire.
