SYRACUSE -- Police, fire, and rescue crews were on the scene of a two-vehicle crash on the city’s north side Friday morning.
Onondaga County 911 says that a bus was involved in a crash with a minivan at the intersection of Butternut Street and Townsend Place. The first call came in around 8:55 a.m.
Two witnesses tell CNY Central that a transport van carrying at least four people ran a red light and was struck "hard" by a Centro bus. Syracuse Police Sgt. Gary Bulinski confirmed this information, saying that the bus was traveling north on Townsend when it hit the minivan heading east on Butternut.
The driver of the 1999 Ford van, 19-year-old Francine Mills of Chittenango, was taken to Upstate University Hospital for a complaint of hip pain. Her sister and passenger, 25-year-old Samantha Mills of Minoa, was also hospitalized after complaining of minor knee pain.
Two children in the van were also taken to the hospital as a precaution, but were not injured. One bus passenger, a 56-year-old female, was transported for a complaint on pain in an undetermined location.
The Syracuse Police and Fire Departments, along with four Rural Metro ambulances, responded to the scene.
Police say Francine Mills has been ticketed for passing a red light.
