SYRACUSE -- A man who was shot by Syracuse police last week has been arrested in his hospital room for illegally possessing a weapon.

According to Syracuse Police, on Tuesday officers went to the room of Ralph Ash at Upstate University Hospital and charged him with felony weapons possession and misdemeanor menacing.

On December 18, police went to Ash's home on Catherine Street for a report of an "emotionally disturbed" person after his mother said he was acting irrationally. When police arrived, Ash threatened them with a sword. After Ash refused to drop the weapon, police first used a Taser on him - which was ineffective - before opening fire and wounding him twice.

Ash remains in the hospital and is currently listed in serious condition as of Wednesday afternoon. The police officers involved in the shooting were not injured.
