UTICA -- Two Oneida County residents are under arrest after a drug bust netted thousands of dollars worth of heroin on Wednesday.

According to State Police, Troopers and Utica Police officers executed search warrants at three residences on Shaw Street in Utica. Police say the warrants led to the recovery of more than $10,000 in heroin as well as more than $4,000 cash.

Police say 39-year-old Carlos N. Silvagnoli and 38-year-old Rachel Aviles, both of 914 Shaw Street - one of the homes that was searched - are charged with felony criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell. They were held in the Utica City Jail pending arraignment Thursday.

Police added that dog control officers also had to respond to the scene to tranquilize a “vicious” Rottweiler that was guarding the heroin.
