East Syracuse shop closing it's doors December 31st
EAST SYRACUSE -- Your mouth is watering before you walk into the door of Fremont Bakery. But the baking is coming to a bittersweet end.
"It's the end of an era for me, it's been my whole life," said owner Tony Fallico.
The East Syracuse sweet shop, on East 2nd street, has been serving up delicious donuts, cookies and cakes for 5 decades.
Fallico started working in family bakeries on the Northside when he was just 9 years old. He opened Fremont's in 1961. Now, 50 years later Fallico says it's time for him and his wife Pauline to slow down.
Fallico estimates he's baked more than 20-thousand wedding cakes. Many of the pictures are proudly displayed on the walls.
Friday, Fremont's could barely keep up with the steady crowd of customers coming in. Fallico thanks his loyal customers for keeping him in business all these years. And over the last few days, those customers have been coming in to thank him, for being such an important and sweet part of their many celebrations.
"He's made my wedding cake, when our kids were born he made their christening and communion cakes. Which were beautiful and delicious. So we are going to miss it very much and we wish them well," said long-time customer Jean Mallaro.
"I'm going to miss all my customers, the ones that came in daily and the ones who patronized my wedding cakes because those were the important people in my life,"said Fallico.
Fremont's is turning off the ovens on Saturday, December 31st.
