ONONDAGA COUNTY -- Now that the holiday season is over, Onondaga County is giving you the chance to get rid of your old Christmas tree, and give it a new life.

The Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency has opened two sites to recycle trees. Starting on January 3rd, county residents can bring them to either the Amboy or Jamesville Compost Sites. They are open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., as well as Saturday from 9:00 a.m. - noon. You can bring trees there from now until January 14th for free.

OCRRA does not accept trees in the blue bin, but says there is no charge to bring your tree to those sites. Make sure all the decorations, tinsel, lights, and tree stands have been removed. Next spring, the trees will be ground into mulch that OCRRA Compost Site users can haul away for landscaping use.

OCRRA will not accept wreaths because of the wire or foam backing they contain.

Many municipalities have pick-up or drop-off programs of their own. Contact your local municipality for specific information on what is available to you.
