PENN YAN (AP) -- A former upstate New York police officer already serving time for drunken driving has pleaded guilty to weapons-related charges.
Yates County District Attorney Jason Cook says 41-year-old Richard Regan III of Penn Yan pleaded guilty Monday to felony counts of attempted criminal possession of a weapon and transportation of weapons and dangerous instruments. He's expected to be sentenced to six months in jail and five years probation.
Authorities say state police found marijuana and several firearms, including an AR-15 assault rifle and illegal handguns, during a June 2010 search of his home.
Regan was a member of the Hornell Police Department for nearly a decade and served with four other departments.
He resigned from the Geneva force after being charged with drunken driving in March 2010. He was convicted of DWI in July.
