JEFFERSON COUNTY -- The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has issued a travel advisory for Jefferson County through 4 pm Thursday.

Areas in northern Jefferson County are expected to see sleet, freezing rain, and heavy icing.

Icing could reach half of an inch, enough to bring down weakened limbs, power lines, and to cause major travel problems. It only takes fractions of an inch of ice to cause travel issues, let alone over half an inch!

This is a very unusual-looking storm for this time of the year. Ice storms like these are more common in the spring months.

Travelers in the area should be cautious of ice on the roads and avoid driving whenever possible.

Be sure to send us your ice photos! Post them to our Facebook page, email news@cnycentral.com, or tweet us @CNYCentral and we may show some of them on air!
