Balancing the 'good' effects on cardio
Even a couple drinks can increase a woman's risk
There's a strong link between even minimal alcohol consumption and breast cancer, and the risk goes up with the amount consumed. That, according to a study just published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
The study shows there's an increased risk from binge drinking...but as little as 3 drinks a week--beer, wine or hard liquor---increased risk by 20%, two or more drinks a day ups the risk to 50%.
Another study says a drink a day LOWERS the risk of heart disease for women, so we asked Dr. Rich O'Neill, Psychologist from SUNY Upstate, how to balance the two---he suggests that even more research suggests you don't need to drink alcohol, that a heart healthy lifestyle--exercise, the low fat/high fruit & veggies diet--can also reduce heart disease risks.
